Configuring Netscape

In order for Audion to integrate with your browser - to listen to streaming MP3 music from links on web sites, for example - you need to make sure your browser is properly configured. Netscape uses its own, proprietary method of maintaining file helpers. Therefore, some manual labor is necessary to get Audion working well with Netscape. Don't worry, it's easy!

What to do

Here are the steps you should take, with Audion open, to properly associate Audion with Netscape.

1 Open the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
2 Click on the Applications category on the left hand side for the Preferences window, under Navigator.
    3 Click the New button.
4.1 Enter MPEG Audio Stream in the Description box.
4.2 Enter audio/x-scpls in the MIME Type box.
4.3 Enter pls in the Suffixes box.
4.4 Click the Choose button, and select Audion.
4.5 Select Plst from the File type pop-up menu.
4.6 Uncheck the Macintosh File box.
5 Click the New button once more for the final filetype.
5.1 Enter MP3 Playlist in the Description box.
5.2 Enter audio/x-mpegurl in the MIME Type box.
5.3 Enter m3u in the Suffixes box.
5.4 Click the Choose button, and select Audion.
5.5 Select Plst from the File type pop-up menu.
5.6 Uncheck the Macintosh File box.
    6 Click OK.

Note: Some naughty applications, such as RealPlayer, will remove or modify your file associations without asking you. It may be wise to back up the file "Netscape Preferences" in your Preferences folder once you get things the way you like them.
